How to Audit CICS (1 day; The Henderson Group)

CICS (Customer Information Control System) is one of the most used transaction processing systems for the IBM Mainframe environment. It provides facilities for developing on-line application programs that communicate between end users and business data bases.

CICS includes facilities for accessing DB2 data bases, IMS data bases, and VSAM files, as well as other data repositories. Its strongest features include the ability to support a large number of users while consuming a modest amount of system resources.

Our courses focus on the application development and implementation process for on-line systems. The latest releases of CICS include facilities for communicating between World Wide Web applications and CICS resources.

The course CICS Command Level Coding provides participants with a hands-on opportunity to learn how CICS works, and how to code effective CICS programs. Programmers and analysts who will design and code programs using Command Level CICS can become immediately productive as CICS programmers.

The course Advanced CICS Command Level Coding provides participants with a hands-on opportunity to learn and practice advanced CICS programming techniques, including the use of DB2. Emphasis is placed on efficient use of CICS. In addition, recent developments in CICS are covered to allow programmers who learned CICS under earlier releases to use the best coding techniques.

The course CICS Program Debugging covers testing and test planning, as well as solution of program errors. Students learn to use various test facilities which provide greater testing flexibility and control. The course is designed for programmers who will code, maintain, and test CICS programs.

The course CICS Program Debugging with XPEDITER teaches programmers the process of debugging programs using the XPEDITER product to test/debug CICS programming problems and abends.

The course CICS Program Debugging with InterTest presents the program debugging process using the InterTest product to test/debug CICS programming problems and abends.

The course CICS Program Debugging with Abend-Aid discusses the process of debugging programs using the XPEDITER product to test/debug CICS programming problems and abends.

The course CICS Transaction Server Differences presents the changes in each of the recent CICS releases and how to deal with them in terms of their applications.  This course is oriented toward those involved in application development, rather than towards system programmers. Some technical details are discussed, but, from an applications point of view.

The course DB2/CICS Interface presents the details of establishing and maintaining connections between CICS (a common teleprocessing monitor) and DB2. It includes a discussion of the interaction between data base access and pseudo-conversation programming techniques, as well as the nature and definition of the Resource Control Table (RCT).

The course Using SDF II teaches students how to use the SDF II product to generate screen definitions for CICS, IMS, TSO, CSP, or GDDM environments and their managers. Programmers, analysts, and users will all benefit from this presentation.

The course How to Audit CICS is provided by our associate Stu Henderson. The link takes you to his home page for more information.

Our CICS course authors have asked that we not include the outlines for the CICS courses on the web site. If you are interested in seeing the detailed course objectives or course outlines, please feel free to call or email us.
