Benefits

Students will learn to test/debug COBOL programming problems and abends using the Abend-Aid products. Greater productivity and accuracy result from fully understanding the debugging process.

Audience

COBOL programmers who will use Abend-Aid tools to debug CICS programs.

Prerequisites

Students should be experienced with CICS and COBOL programming, or, should have completed "CICS Command Level Coding" within the previous twelve months.

Recommended Materials

In addition to the student handouts, the students should have access to the following Compuware manual:

This course is not available for licensing nor for RCT.

  • Using AADF
  • TSO connection
  • Abend-Aid dump reading concepts
  • Finding abending statements
  • Obtaining data addresses 
  • Locating fields in WORKING-STORAGE SECTION 
  • Finding data in LINKAGE SECTION
  • Solving abends and problems.

Exercises

There are two group exercises and one optional machine exercise.

Note

This course may be added on to any of the CICS debugging courses.
