Converting to COBOL II - Course Objectives
On successful completion of this course, the student, with the aid of the appropriate reference materials, should be able to:
1. Discuss the major differences between the OS/VS COBOL Compiler and the
COBOL II compiler, and how these differences impact existing code
2. Make any necessary changes to existing COBOL programs to allow them to be
correctly compiled under COBOL II, and to have the resulting object
code produce the
same results as previously
3. Modify existing programs, or plan new programs to use the new features of COBOL
II,
especially:
a. In-line PERFORM
b. PERFORM with pre-test or
post-test
c. 31-bit addressing
capability
d. Statement delimiters
e. EVALUATE
f. Expanded VSAM debugging
information
g. Pointer data
h. ADDRESS and LENGTH
special registers
i. Subscript / index
range checking
j. EXTERNAL and GLOBAL
variables
