Entry Programmer Training - Growing Your Own Programmers

With the current shortage of programming talent, many companies have decided to develop their own programming staff. This may involve taking non-IS people currently working for your company and training them to become programmers, or it may involve hiring recent college graduates and bringing them up to speed on working in the IBM mainframe environment.

These programs go by various names: EPT (Entry Programmer Training), BPT (Basic Programmer Training), PBT (Programmer Basic Training), Programming Boot Camp, and so on.

We have been involved in these kinds of programs for over 30 years. We can work with you to develop a program tailored to your needs, using our quality materials and instructors, to get new people up and running quickly. You take charge of selecting your candidates. Your people sit with our people to discuss content, tailoring, and scheduling, and we're off and running.

While most of the EPT offerings we have been involved with used COBOL as the language of choice, we have also done these using Assembler and PL/I. In every case, we start with a core curriculum then work with you to adjust content and timing. Once students complete the core content successfully, they can take any mix of electives that they will need on their actual assignment (for example, DB2, CICS, IMS, Language Environment, and so on).
