The top-of-the-line mainframe operating system from IBM has undergone many transformations:
- OS/MVT
- SVS
- MVS
- MVS/XA
- MVS/ESA
- OS/390
- z/OS
Within each of these major versions, there have been constant updates and upgrades, versions, and releases
Our current courses point out release dependencies as necessary
However, as older releases go out of support, we find it unnecessarily complex to keep pointing out where certain features were introduced - it is better to integrate features that are no longer new into courses in a natural way
We are taking the occasion of the advent of z/OS to do a level set of our courses, which means
- These courses will remain relevant as long as customers are using the related levels of these products, probably to around 1Q of 2005
- z800, z890, z900, z990, z9, z10 mainframes [or later]
- z/OS V1.2 or later (this was the first version / release to support new application level function above the last release of OS/390)
- High Level Assembler (HLASM)
- Language Environment (LE)
- Program binder (instead of the older Linkage Editor)
- ISPF V5.2 or later
- PDSEs (Partitioned Data Set Extended)
- UNIX System Services
- DB2 Version 7 or later
- IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/OS and OS/390 (if they have COBOL)
- IBM Enterprise PL/I for z/OS and OS/390 (if they have PL/I)
