How to get information

From our home page, you can get our phone, fax, and email address, as well as our postal address - feel free to contact us directly any time.

On our website we include course descriptions, course objectives, and course outlines - you can get to these from the Topics list or the complete course list.

Note that links are kept at the bottom of our pages:
     description <-> objectives <-> outline

Our public course list keeps you current on offerings that are available to be attended by anyone, along with our roadshow course list.

Courses are grouped by similarity of topic on the Topics list, and are generally cross-referenced when appropriate; a special case is the Entry Programmer Training page that suggests complete curricula for beginners.

Significant updates to the website are indicated on the What's New page.

How to schedule a class

You can email, call, fax, or write us for information on scheduling a class.

Typically, we need to find an available instructor and you need to ensure you have a training room available and that the intended students will be able to attend a class on the dates we choose together.

For this reason, it may take several iterations before we can agree on a date.

We will need the name and phone number of a technical liaison person to help us with setup for the labs. We will also need information about where our instructor should stay (nearby hotel / motel accommodations).

To teach a class that has labs (the vast majority of our classes), the instructor will need a login ID and access to technical support if needed. The classroom should contain a projector capable of projecting images from a PC onto the wall or a screen, as well as a PC containing Adobe Acrobat Reader software. We need either lots of writable board space or some flip charts in the classroom.

Our basic pricing is a fixed rate for a class, which includes instructor expenses and tuition for up to 16 students. The capacity of your training room might further restrict class size. Note that for roadshow courses, we do not include labs; in this case, class size must be a minium of 20 and the maximum is the seating capacity of the classroom.

If you only have a few students to train, if you are willing and able to host a consortium class (see below), we then will bill you at our per student rate.

If you only have a few students to train and are unable to host a class, we can put you on our wait list; then, when a public class is scheduled we will contact you. Also, check out our z/OS Training Roadshows.

Remote Contact Training

Remote Contact Training is, like consortium training, designed for small training needs; it is student-directed, instructor-assisted self study, combining the benefits of student pacing with instructor led training. Each student is assigned to an instructor and receives a course book; we work with tech support people to install the lab exercises; the student reads the book, contacting the instructor to answer questions or help with lab problems; as labs are completed, the instructor critiques and evaluates the student's work by email. Copies of these evaluations are also sent to one designated person in the company responsible for monitoring the student's progress.

To start the process, register your company for receiving RCT training for a particular course. At the same time, you can register one or more students to be taking the course. Once you are registered for receiving RCT training for a course, you can register additional students any time.

z/OS Training Roadshows

Our z/OS training roadshows provide live lectures in a fast-paced version of our standard courses: we omit labs and topics that we deem of lower priority. We travel to various cities, arrange for a venue in a hotel or conference center, and offer the courses publicly. We choose cities and course based on requests, so feel free to contact us and to request a roadshow come to a city near you. Or, you can have a roadshow come to your company.

Consortium classes

A consortium class is a class hosted by a customer who is willing to allow students from other companies to attend. This way, even if the host does not have enough students to justify a class just for them, they can still get the training.

The host company gets priority enrollments. However, there must be at least 10 students in a consortium class to hold the class. So there is a possibility that a scheduled consortium class could fall through. Also, if no outside students attend, pricing will revert to the per-class rate. On the other hand, if a consortium class does hold, and there are outside students, then the hosting company gets one free tuition.

To schedule a consortium class, just contact us the same way you would schedule a standard class (see above). We will handle contacting outside companies to see if they have any students to send, and we will handle all billing. If you have suggestions for companies to contact, we will be happy to follow up with a phone call.

How to enroll a student in a consortium class

You can email, call, or write us to request enrollment of one or more students in a consortium class. Because the host gets priority enrollments, we must then first call the host company to see if there is still room. If there is, we will enroll your student(s); if there is no room, we will put your student(s) on our wait list for that class or the next offering of that course.

How to un-enroll a student from a consortium class

Call us as soon as you know you must drop a student from a class. This is because we have a three week cancellation policy and we may have to bill you for part of a class when you drop a student after the no-penalty cancellation deadline. See Policies for details.

How to cancel or reschedule a class

Call us as soon as you know you must cancel or reschedule. This is because we have a three week cancellation policy and we may have to bill you for part of a class that you cancel if it is after the no-penalty cancellation deadline. See Policies for details.

Contracts and Billing

We don't generally need a contract unless you do. We generally bill after a class is taught. If you need to have a contract or purchase order, we need to have that paperwork in place before the class begins. We expect payment within 30 days of the end of the class. Some clients prefer to be billed in advance, and we can certainly arrange that.

For RCT courses, we always expect tuition payment in advance of shipping the course materials, although we will ship the set up kit when the course is registered.
