
Statement of direction:
Version 1 of File RePackager supports these features:
- Support for MVS sequential files as input and output
- Supports Fixed length records and Variable length records for input and output
- Support for z/OS UNIX files as input and output:
- Type text (character data using record delimiters)
- Type binary if prefixed with a 1- or 2- or 4-byte length indicator
- Type binary if records have a fixed length
- Type record (z/OS 1.11 or later)
- Command file can be sequential or z/OS UNIX file
- Supports squeezing trailing blanks, truncating data, and padding records
- Supports copying only a subset of the records (startafter and stopafter)
- Support for 4 EBCDIC code pages and 3 ASCII code pages
Version 2 of File RePackager is expected to support these additional features:
- Support for Unicode code pages for UTF-8, UTF-16, and UTF-32
- Support for additional ASCII and EBCDIC code pages
- Option to request verification that a file contains only valid characters
Version 3 of File RePackager is expected to support these additional features:
- Support for field level extracting, reformatting, and re-encoding
- Ability to insert literals, to support markup such as XML and HTML
- Ability to insert leading and trailing records to support markup such as XML and HTML
Future releases are not currently scoped; but we are confident user input will give us
great ideas for extensions.
