Other personal information:

I am a graduate of East High School Class of 1981. My first experience traveling abroad was with a group of French and Spanish language students and teachers from East. We spent two weeks in Europe exploring France, Spain and London. What a wonderful learning experience that was!

Japan connections:

I was a participant in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Education from 1989 - 1992. As an Assistant English Teacher (AET) I taught in roughly 25 public junior high schools and about five high schools during my three year tour of duty. I was posted to Numazu-city, Shizuoka Prefecture. This part of Japan is famous for Mt. Fuji, green tea and the Izu Peninsula--one of my favorite places on the planet.

Two years ago, I led a small group back to Japan for an international rugby tournament in Tokyo. We also visited Kyoto and spent a week driving around the Izu Peninsula enjoying hot springs, cherry blossoms and delicious food.
