Previous travel experience:
I have traveled to many states within the US including Texas, Florida, California,
Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Oklahoma. I have also traveled overseas to Europe
and the UK since my mothers family are British. I have been to the UK approximately
once every other year since I was born and I am very familiar with the culture. I
really enjoy noticing cultural differences between the UK and the USA. I really
enjoy travelling to other places and learning new things and experiencing culture
What I like about Japan / Japanese culture:
I love many things about Japanese culture. Their food is a favorite of mine, and
i order many unique Japanese foods and sweets online, as well as go out to
traditional Japanese restaurants as often as possible. I use chopsticks on
almost a daily basis and have practiced my knowledge on Japanese etiquette
often. I also have been very interested in Japanese history and have done extra
studying on it in my AP world history class. My former English teacher also has
taught English in Japan for many years, and we became close over the summer when
my family hosted Japanese students for the second year. I have learned the
proper ways of giving and receiving gifts from them, as well as other Japanese
cultures, such as greeting, bowing, farewells, etc. I enjoy watching many anime
shows especially the ones that are in Japanese and not translated into English.
What I hope to get from this adventure:
I have always wanted to travel to Japan. I hope to learn about daily life in
Japan compared to my life in America today and experience Japanese culture first
hand. I am excited to visit Tokyo and Kyoto and see first hand some of the
temples and places I have learned about in Japanese class and Ap world history
classes. I am excited to visit both the modern parts of Japan and the
traditional parts and cultural heritage sites. Having had 2 sets of Japanese
students stay in my home, I want to experience how it feels to live with a host
family in a different city and town speaking a different language to me. I would
love to attend the Japanese high school and see how different it is to our own.
I am looking forward to travelling, shopping, speaking Japanese, eating Japanese
food and just experiencing the culture in a way that I will not be able to do
without going there and seeing for myself.
