What I like about Japan / Japanese culture:

My elementary school teacher was from Japan, and taught me basic hiragana and greetings. Ever since then, I have been intrigued with learning the language, and studying the culture. Specifically, I like learning about the history of Japan and how the shogun rose to power, etc. I also like learning about the customs and norms that are different than of western society. Additionally, I enjoy learning about Shinto and Buddhist culture, and how it impacts the lives of people.

What I hope to get from this adventure:

I hope to gain a better understanding of Japanese language, and improve my skills to become fluent. I've been studying Japanese since 2013, and I hope to become fluent before I graduate high school. I also hope to learn more about everyday life in Japan. Experiencing Japan first hand will give me the opportunity to put all that I've learned into a real world application.
